Introducing: Samantha Leopold-Sullivan

“Scaredy Cat” linocut patch
“Stairwell” leather pyrography
“On to the next thing” 5×7 linocut print

Samantha Leopold-Sullivan works in a diverse range of mediums, creating sculptures of visceral creatures in dialogue with industrial spaces, linocut prints of homes having a bit more agency in the world, leather pyrography wall pieces depicting forgotten moments and common objects, and curious little critters made from salvaged fabric scraps.  Their goal is always to deepen self-understanding and reflection within the viewer, using art as a medium for self-exploration and emotional communication.  They graduated Cum Laude from Macalester College in 2014 with a B.A. in Studio Art and Environmental Studies, and received a MFA in Sculpture/Dimensional Studies from Alfred University in 2019. Active in the Conspiracy of Strange Girls artist collective and the Dark Art Society, they also volunteer at the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center.  Leopold-Sullivan has outdoor sculpture installed at Franconia Sculpture Park, Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum, and Salem Art Works.  Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Seeking Space’ at Red Garage Studio, and ‘Summoning Self’ at The Robert C. Turner Gallery.  Currently Leopold-Sullivan is a Teaching Artist at Artistry and Franconia Sculpture Park, and also a professional leather worker.
